LUJIAZUI PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

Shanghai, PRC

Whilst at Arup Associates, Suzanne led the Design and the Project Team of the Lujiazui Pedestrian Bridge Conceptual Design in Shanghai.

Lujiazui core zone is the “City Name Card” and represents the future of Shanghai, where great number of skyscrapers stand in and has been widely and deeply recognized as the “Shanghai Impression”. The project has achieved the “enhancing the regional value and creating a new landmark” through the design of the elevated walking platform and the footbridge crossing the Century Avenue. The new pedestrian bridge will be forged to a lightweight landscape linkage which echoes to the skyscrapers of the urbanism background. Meanwhile, the project will provide a brand new urban landscape viewing platform and a tranquil park, forming the open and pleasant “new shanghai impression”.

The creative structural design integrated the staircase with the ground support pillar, using the space truss as the structure system of the main bridge, creating a light and transparent outstanding sculptural bridge which seems like suspending in the air. The structure components naturally formed the space sequence and the variety of density, which complement well with the surrounding environment, offered the varying sceneries with changing view-points, constructed a brand new viewing platform.
